Hi! I’d like to introduce myself to you. My name is Erica Whitmire and as the optometrist here at the Optical Centre, I look forward to getting to know you and helping you with all of your eye care needs. I feel very fortunate to be able to practice here, where the focus is on you, the patient. As a private practice, we don’t have to rush exams or meet sales quotas. I am passionate about the importance of healthy eyes and good vision and it means a lot to me to be able to give you the quality of care that I would want for my own family.
I grew up in the small state of Rhode Island and traded the ocean for the mountains when my husband and I moved to Colorado six years ago. I love all of the adventures that our majestic state has to offer, especially skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. When its warm I enjoy playing tennis, hiking and running with Longmont’s own Shoes and Brews running club. Our puppy, Moose, is the newest addition to our family and we are loving every minute with him!
I knew from a young age that I wanted to become an optometrist. I was in the fourth grade when I found out that I needed glasses so I had a lot of experience getting yearly eye exams. I was fascinated with all of the equipment, but even more so with the miracle of finally seeing the world clearly. I had no idea how much I was missing! And I’ll never forget how excited I was to wear my first contact lenses.
By the time I was in high school, I knew that I wanted to become an eye doctor so that I could help other people see the world more clearly, too. I had no idea at the time that optometrists also diagnose and treat medical conditions such as glaucoma and cataracts and identify medical conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure that manifest in the eyes.
I want to thank you for allowing me the privilege of being a part of your health care team and hope that you always feel free to talk with me about any questions or concerns you have.
My best wishes to you and your family for health, happiness, and 20/20 vision in 2020!
